PSN trying to change Whole Foods design
While it is great to have Whole Foods in the neighborhood, it's not so great to have a suburban design ethos foisted on us. The current plan is to have 420 parking spaces (that's about four times what Associated on Fifth Av has,) and that is uncalled for. Not having a car myself, you might say it's easy for me not to care about parking, but lesser parking will promote better habits- walking, say to the store.
If you want to see the effect that a parking lot causes, on a much smaller scale, check out the Commerce Bank at Fifth and 1st (at right), the only building on Fifth Ave in blocks that has any parking...and it stands out like a gap-toothed mouth. Commerce Bank did change their design from a much-worse one which included a drive thru, stopped in large part by Park Slope Neighbors campaign two years ago, and they're on Whole Foods as well.
We can influence Whole Foods...click here to go to Park Slope Neighbor's Campaign and sign it! "The petition, addressed to Whole Foods Chairman and CEO John Mackey, asks for the reduction of at least 100 of the planned 420 parking spaces, and to replace rooftop spaces with a green roof or solar panels."
