Andrew Sullivan, writing in his blog for Atlantic.com, has this neat map:
The title of his essay is "One reason we're not leaving Iraq," which says it all.
He could've added "And another reason we're so friendly with a socially repressive country like Saudi Arabia."
Well, some claim that 2005 (or 1999) was the year of "Peak Oil," which would have that oil production has only one way to go from here...down. Maybe in 2050 the above map will correspond more closely to its geographic dimensionality.
